Director, composer, and writer of American street plays Mr. Copani draws inspiration for his works from having lived on the streets of New York City himself. He authors plays that reflect the tough life on those streets and has used young performers from the actual communities to act in the plays and express themselves in positive ways instead of resorting to violence.

Peter Copani musicals have appeared on the streets of New York, as well as at the well-known Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors Festivals, and Off Broadway. Both his plays “Street Jesus” and “The Blind Junkie” received a host of positive reviews from sources including The New York Times, the New York Daily News, Newsweek, and After Dark. Peter Copani has brought scores of performances to the stage and earned a Certificate of Appreciation presented by Mayor Abraham D. Beame for his outstanding work in the community.

Peter Copani’s new musical about money, sex, drugs, intrigue, betrayal, personal loss, and the judicial system, ‘It’s a Me Day’ is filled with humor and 30 entertaining and uplifting musical numbers.  “It’ a Me Day” is currently in pre-production.

In loving memory of his son who has left the planet after a bout with cancer, Peter Copani established the JVPC Memorial Foundation of the Arts and donates generously to New York theater companies to enable them to continue their work of enhancing the community through the humanities.

“My teachers included studies of the Tanach and several Christian versions of the Bible. I studied the works of Jesus, Buddha, Gandhi and Krishna. I chanted “nam yo ho rhan ga kyo” translated to mean, “I believe in cause and effect and the oneness of the universe.” Constantly searching for truth, I studied in depth, the Kaballa, Astrology, the teachings of Plato, Aristotle and Pythagoras who translated numbers into form to ‘know thyself’.

Peter also considered all of Emanuel Swedenborg, who over three hundred years ago, said that although human beings appear to be separate from one another, we are all connected in a cosmic unity. His writing was a spiritual guide for Helen Keller. Helen Keller was my strength! As you may know, she was deaf, dumb and blind, and if Helen Keller could get through this life, why couldn’t he?

Kahlil Gibran, put it all most simply, “Your life is your religion.” He expanded my thinking from Einstein’s relativity through Quantum physics to seeing holographic ally, and from “A Course In Miracles” perspective.

He searched and researched: Love, Medicine and Miracles by Bernie Seigel; On Death and Dying, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross; Conversations with God 1,2, and 3, Neale Donald Walsh; Seat of the Soul, Gary Zukav; and The Sleeping Prophet by Edgar Cayce whose work helped me to understand practical metaphysics

In depth studies include: The Holographic Universe, by Michael Talbot; The Looking Glass Universe, by Briggs & Peat and, A Course In Miracles scribed by Helen Schucman, a Jewish woman taking dictation from a Spirit-Author identifying himself as Jesus. In spite of being skeptical, he read and listened to tapes of the book dozens of times doing the 365 daily lessons twice. Then he diligently studied Ken Wapnick, “A Course in Miracles” tapes and CDs.

Peter also ingested over 100 self-help positive thinking books and courses including: Earl Nightingales’s Lead the Field, and Dennis Waitley’s The Psychology of Winning.

I thank all the authors and figures in my dream for being my teacher!”                                             – Peter Copani
